CONCORD,
NC (November 2) – Wanting to end his rookie season
with the World of Outlaws on a high note, Chad Hillier drove
the #5c DIRT Inc. Maxim like a virtuoso in Friday's Outlaws
World Finals Preliminary Feature.
The 28-year-old driver from Burlington, WA, raced into
13th place from outside the 10th row. Only World of Outlaws
veterans Jac Haudenschild and provisional starters Danny
Lasoski and Jason Solwold passed more cars in the 30-lap
feature race.
“We had a good night,” Chad said. “Haud
and Lasoski were the only ones who got by us, and they only
did that when the car got a little upset on the cushion.
We almost got Lasoski back toward the end, but he used his
veteran skills to take my line away.”
Hillier, the 19th-fastest driver in Thursday's first time
trial session, qualified for the preliminary feature by
finishing fifth in the Fourth Heat Race.
“We had a good heat race – we got out of it
in one shot – and everything went well in the feature,”
Chad said. “We were really good on the cushion, but
not the best off the cushion. We were fortunate enough to
race around on the cushion for most of the race and we kept
our nose clean. It was a good night of racing for us.”
Hillier, encouraged by Friday's performance, is looking
forward to Saturday's Outlaws World Finals finale.
“We know what to expect and we feel like we're pretty
close with the car,” Chad said. “We have a good
starting position in the heat race again, and we have a
good feeling after tonight. Pete (Stephens) and Travis (Van
Dam) worked hard to give me a good car, the track is nice
and the weather's beautiful, so we're looking forward to
another good night of racing.”
